DCT Sonix 355 CRRD

The Sonix® cleaning systems are a unique ultrasonic technology developed and manufactured by DCT. In the past, machines with ultrasonic technology were used for PCBA, which is no longer used or recommended due to component sensitivity, miniaturization, higher rinsing quality requirements, etc. We recommend Sonix® cleaning systems mainly for special cleaning applications to effectively remove cured conformal coating. Exceptionally, they can be used for board cleaning if the boards are compatible with ultrasonic technology. They are also suitable for degreasing processes of metal components. It can also be used for “dual” application – one chamber for cleaning of coating frame and pallets, second for cleaning of reflow oven and wave soldering machine parts. Sonix® 355 CRRD including 100% separated processes of cleaning, pre-rinsing, final rinsing and drying technologies. All processes are automated and take place in 4 separate process chambers, which are also storage tanks. Cleaning takes place in the first inlet chamber, where the operator places the basket with parts. Then the operator manually moves the basket with the cleaned parts into the secondary pre-rinse chamber. The operator then moves the basket to the final rinse chamber and finally to the last drying chamber.
 
All 4 chambers can be used in parallel, which increases the machine’s cleaning capacity, reduces cross-contamination when compared with single-chamber devices and optimizes rinsing with two rinsing chambers.
 
Sonix® 355 CRRD is designed to remove cured conformal coatings from coating frames, coating machine parts or coated PCBs for repair and subsequent coating.
In certain cases, Sonix® 355 CRRD may also be recommended for PCB cleaning or for degreasing of metal component

® 954 CRD “Piano”

The AirJet® cleaning systems represent unique airbubbling technology developed and manufactured by DCT. Air-bubbling technology machines are developed for gentle yet highly efficient maintenance cleaning of reflow and wave soldering machines such as soldering frames, filters, heat exchangers, etc. The AirJet® “Piano” can also be offered for the removal of conformal coatings.

AirJet® cleaning systems are available in several sizes and with different levels of automation of the cleaning process. AirJet® 954 CRD “Piano” including 100% closed loop with processes of cleaning, rinsing, and drying technologies.

All processes are fully automated and take place in one process chamber, under which 2 storage tanks are placed, one with cleaning liquid and the other with rinsing liquid. The operator places the parts to be cleaned in the process chamber in the basket, and the cleaning system automatically performs the cleaning, rinsing and drying process. AirJet® 954 CRD “Piano” is designed for the maintenance cleaning of reflow ovens and wave soldering machines or to remove cured conformal coating from coating frames, coating machine parts or coated PBCs for repair and subsequent coating.

Cleaning systems boast a unique all-stainless-steel construction, which is welded manually from AISI 304 and AISI 316 stainless steel and then chemically passivated.

The cleaning systems are designed and manufactured with a focus on ease of use by operators, simple maintenance, and smart process parameter setting. They are equipped with industrial PLC IDEC, a well arranged color touch display with 3-level access (operator, maintenance, engineer), and with 5 adjustable cleaning programmes as standard.

The device automatically and permanently checks all processes, operating fluid levels and process temperatures, and also gives timely notification of the
need to replace individual consumables or fluids. Monitoring of the cleaning process history, whether offline or online, is ensured by an optional traceability function. A wide range of standard hardware and software equipment is available for every cleaning system. Moisture-sensitive devices(MSDs) and Levels

Moisture-sensitive devices (MSDs) are electronic components encapsulated with plastic compounds and other organic materials. Moisture from atmospheric humidity enters permeable packaging materials by diffusion and collects at the interfaces of dissimilar material. During reflow soldering, the combination of rapid moisture expansion and material mismatch can result in package cracking or delamination of critical interfaces within the package. Unfortunately, these internal defects are nearly impossible to detect during the PCB assembly and test process. They lead to a number of failure modes that have a negative impact on manufacturing yield and cause early failure of electronic products, such as cameras, cell phones and computers.

Two standards help electronics manufacturers tackle the challenges of moisture sensitivity: IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020B and IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033C. The joint industry standards were developed by IPC (Bannockburn, IL) and JEDEC Solid State Technology Association (Arlington, VA). Both standards have recently been updated to support components that may need to be processed at higher temperatures, such as devices that use lead-free solder. The IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020B standard identifies the classification level of nonhermetic solid-state surface mount devices that are sensitive to moisture-induced stress. It is used to determine what classification level should be used for initial reliability qualification. Once identified, devices can be correctly packaged, stored and handled to avoid subsequent thermal and mechanical damage during reflow or repair.

The IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033C standard provides manufacturers with standardized methods for handling, packing, shipping and using moisture-sensitive surface-mount devices. It defines methods and outlines procedures to use to avoid damage from moisture absorption and exposure to reflow temperatures that can result in yield and reliability degradation. The standard helps end users achieve safe and damage-free reflow with the dry packing process.


Both of the industry standards classify moisture sensitivity levels (MSL). Each level is expressed numerically, with the MSL number increasing with the vulnerability of the package to popcorn cracking. For instance, MSL 1 refers to electronic devices that are immune to popcorn cracking regardless of exposure to moisture.

On the other hand, MSL 6 devices are most prone to moisture-induced fracture and have an extremely short floor life. The floor life of a part is the amount of time that it can be exposed to the environment and still be considered safe to reflow.


Dry cabinets are an alternative to moisture barrier bags that can greatly reduce the risk of operator handling errors. The metal cabinets feature tightly sealed doors and multiple shelves for storing trays and reels for extended periods of time. A good dry box maintains relative humidity at 2 percent or less for indefinite safe storage, as stated in the guidelines under the IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033C specification.

Humidity is removed from the cabinets by use of a powerful desiccant. Moisture absorbed by the desiccant is vaporized and released outside the dry box. Digital controls record the temperature and humidity over time. Nitrogen cabinets are a more expensive way to purge moisture. They use a constant positive pressure flow to void the cabinet of all oxygen, which forces out all moisture and contamination.

The InJet® 888 series cleaning systems represent unique horizontal Spray-In-Air technology developed and manufactured by DCT.

Systems with horizontal spraying technology excel in high pressure and high liquid flow. Thanks to their large process chamber they have a large capacity basket, which also facilitates loading and unloading of the cleaned parts. The basket can be pulled out of the cleaning chamber on built-in rails or onto a separate loading and handling trolley.

The
InJet® 888 CRD-2F including 100% closed loop with processes of cleaning, rinsing and drying technologies. All of the processes are fully automated, and take place in one process chamber.

The 2F designation refers to a 2-storey solution where smaller parts can be cleaned in two baskets simultaneously to maximize cleaning capacity. After easy removal of the central spray arm, large parts can be cleaned in one (lower) basket.
